The Silent Treatment

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, ‘Please wake me at 5:00 AM.’ He left it where he knew she would find it. Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

Para ilmuwan menemukan bahwa kenikmatan bercinta bagi perempuan punya kaitan langsung dengan harta pasangannya. Seperti dikutip Sunday Times, para ilmuwan itu menemukan bahwa makin kaya seorang pria maka pasangannya makin sering mencapai orgasme. “Kekerapan orgasme perempuan meningkat seiring pendapatan pasangannya,” kata Dr Thomas Pollet, psikolog dari Newcastle University. Pollet, yang melakukan penelitian, yakin bahwa kecenderungan itu adalah suatu “adaptasi evolusioner” yang sudah ada pada perempuan. Kecenderungan itu membuat mereka menyeleksi laki-laki berdasarkan mutu. Studi tersebut meyakini bahwa perempuan sudah terprogram untuk menjadi “mata duitan”.

Temuan itu juga cocok dengan penelitian psikologi evolusioner yang memperkirakan bahwa perempuan maupun laki-laki dipengaruhi secara genetik untuk bersikap “tanpa ragu-ragu” mengeksploitasi satu sama lain guna kelangsungan gen mereka.

Orgasme perempuan jadi fokus penelitian sebab tidak terkait dengan kehamilan.

Pollet dan rekannya, Daniel Nettle, yakin bahwa orgasme perempuan adalah adaptasi evolusioner yang menyebabkan perempuan memilih dan mempertahankan pasangan yang bermutu bagus.

Pollet dan Nettle menguji pemikiran mereka dengan menggunakan data dari studi-studi terbesar tentang gaya hidup.

Survay Kesehatan dan Kehidupan Keluarga China mewawancara sekitar lima ribu orang dari seluruh pelosok China mengenai kehidupan pribadi termasuk pertanyaan mengenai seks, pendapatan dan faktor-faktor lainnya.

Dari jumlah tersebut diambil data 1.534 perempuan dan pasangannya sebagai dasar penelitian.

Sebanyak 121 perempuan ternyata selalu orgasme jika berhubungan sedangkan 408 lainnya masuk kategori “sering”.

Sebanyak 762 lainnya masuk kategori “kadang-kadang” dan 243 sisanya termasuk dalam golongan “jarang” dan “tidak pernah”. Data itu ternyata mirip dengan yang ada di negara-negara barat.

Tentu saja ada banyak faktor yang membuat seorang perempuan tergolong kategori tersebut, namun Pollet mengatakan uang adalah penentu utama.

“Bertambahnya pemasukan suami punya dampak positif yang tinggi terhadap kekerapan orgasme perempuan. Jika laki-laki makin menggairahkan, perempuan makin sering orgasme.”

Hal ini tidak hanya pada perempuan di China tetapi juga di Jerman dan Amerika Serikat. Uang tampaknya sangat penting.
David Buss, profesor psikologi di University of Texas, Austin, lewat bukunya “The Evolution of Desire” menyakini bahwa orgasme perempuan “bisa untuk mempererat ikatan dengan laki-laki bermutu tinggi serta bisa menjadi tanda bahwa perempuan sangat puas secara seksual dan tidak mau mencari pria lain,” katanya.

“Orgasme itu seolah berkata ’saya sangat setia, jadi engkau harus tanam investasi pada saya dan anak-anak’.”
